This year I got involved in the
preparations for the Secondary School Play, Arsenic and Old Lace, through the
student run organization Tiny Piano Productions. I wanted to repeat my
experience of working on the promotional material for the play like I have done
for the past 2 years, so it was a good opportunity for both my friend and
myself to get even more experience in design before going to university to
pursue artistic careers. However, there was some difficulty in time management
this year as it is my senior year and also I took responsibility as the
Co-Director of Tiny Piano Productions.
When we began we wanted to
experiment with something new in the terms of the style and design. In years
prior, we had opted on using Photoshop to create the posters from scratch,
meaning that little to no photo manipulation was involved. This year we aimed
to change this to creating a poster that is more realistic in the way it looks,
which is why we wanted to explore on photo manipulation and how to achieve a successful
poster design that fitted the play.
Due to the trouble we had with
meeting for working on the poster as a result of the distance between our
households and the impending end of grade exams, my friend and I had to split
the responsibilities in how we would work with the poster. This meant that I
would be in charge primarily on the typography for the poster as well as with
the placement and structure of the main image with the logos of sponsors and
such. To arrive to this mutual agreement with had to learn to listen to each
other’s ideas more than ever before, personally developing my eagerness to hear
other suggestions and in my teamwork.
