This is my last year studying at The British School Quito and that meant that it would also be my last opportunity to be part of the Year Book editorial team. I have always considered my school to be something like a second home to me, which is why I wanted to leave a contribution from my part that would then be seen by future students of the school. This, alongside my eagerness to take a leadership role amongst a team and be able to work effectively with them, is what made me choose to be part of the Year Book editorial team.
In this activity, I learned many leadership qualities and in my opinion the most important one I learned was the respect and value for other people’s views and ideas. I had great pleasure in working with the team as they brought fresh new ideas for the design and organization of the year book, and similarly they inspired me to make contributions of my own. This developed my confidence in my opinions and the way I expressed these to others, which is a skill I will need in the future if I want to work in artistic teams or other careers in general.
I also gained responsibility from the activity, as many times I had to put order in the matters of the Editorial Team. Finally, after this activity I had a broader experience of how it is to work in a publication and on how important it is to listen to other team members in order to develop one’s criteria and ideas that can benefit the whole team.
